My name is Isaac Quist. Since the mid-1980s, I have been closely involved in the education of children, adolescents and adults across a rich variety of local, national and international contexts - these include significant experiences with Achimota School, the West African Examinations’ Council (WAEC), the SOS-Hermann Gmeiner International College, the International Baccalaureate (IB), and Wesley College, Melbourne.
Our world today is characterized by rapid change, owing in part to ongoing advances in science and technology. These have resulted in continued improvements to the quality of life, and the complex lifestyle choices and behaviours now exhibited by an increasing and ever more globalized and mobile population, for whom communication across time and space has never been as easy and rapid.
At NuBuED IMMERSE, we believe that we must educate for the future. We also believe that, in Ghana and Africa especially, we must engage our students in educational experiences that have a significant focus on both country and continents. There is no substitute for instilling in our young learners a deep knowledge and forward-looking attitude to the prospects of development for their country and continent if we seriously expect them to assume effective leadership of both in the near future. Simply put, they cannot lead the future development of a place they do not know.
At NuBuED IMMERSE, we are motivated by the power of experiential learning to ignite, engage, and inspire the diverse interests and talents of young people; this entails learning activities that assist the full transformation of learners into active, productive citizens who have the capacity to work both by themselves, and with others, to navigate and create change. Our students should not only react to change, they must also influence change, and become changemakers.
We are also committed to working together with other educators to facilitate such learning for our students.
The work of NuBuED IMMERSE, therefore, is to create and implement, in partnership with schools, a broad range of immersive learning experiences aimed at situating learners in real world contexts from which they:
Optimize their knowledge and understanding of important global issues and developments, especially from local, national or international perspectives
Develop the skills for applying classroom knowledge towards understanding and solving problems of community in ways that also generate new and relevant knowledge
Communicate and interact skillfully with others, including those from other cultures, and develop the aptitudes to work productively by themselves and/or as members of teams
Hone important personal attributes, skills and values such as curiosity, inquiry, critical thinking, creativity, enterprise, resilience, humility, empathy, ethics, openness to difference and respect.
Ultimately, NuBuED IMMERSE is committed to the challenge of developing among our students the competences for responsible, compassionate and ethical leadership, at local, national and global levels. We are also fully committed to building teacher capacity for engaging this challenge with success. To these ends, our programs focus equally on the knowledge, skills and attributes that advance leadership of self, leadership of others and leadership of community for students and teachers alike.
Welcome to the new and exciting world of NuBuED IMMERSE; we look forward to sharing a vibrant and mutually rewarding relationship with you. Thank you.
